Day 6

Hold the congratulatory marks. This is Day 6 of NOT working out. Longest non-workout streak I've been on since February. How depressing. On the way home I developed a headache and a nasty attitude so I decided to go ahead and make it a full week of no exercising. Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face. Hmph.

Let's review some happy notes before elaborating on the depressing. Here are some of the happenings of the long weekend, which, for all intensive purposes, started Thursday.

Thursday night I had a charity event at "The Griffin" - a pretty famous venue on Gansevoort St. The theme was Great Gatsby. My outfit wound up being pretty cute (everything discovered in my closet) and I felt surprisingly skinny all night, which was great.

Friday I was severely sleep deprived and hungover and forced myself to go into work, mostly because I didn't have my laptop with me to take home for the long weekend (not that I wound up doing work anyway). I struggled through the day surviving on Real Deal Veggie Chips (my new favorite snack, and the serving size is outrageously A HUNDRED CHIPS), ginger ale, and udon noodle soup. Needless to say I got in bed as soon as I got home and didn't get out until I got PIZZA delivered (yes, pizza, very unlike me) at 9pm.

Saturday Ava and I planned an "all day" marathon to do some fun stuff in the city. We wound up cutting it short due to rain and evening obligations, but all in all it was a fun-filled, calorie filled day.

We started with brunch at Kittichai - $25 for an entree plus unlimited lychee/blood orange mimosas (made with fresh puree). I got the curry spiced eggs benedict, despite my disgust for curry, and wound up getting a stomach ache. It looked pretty though and I cleaned out the curry with 5 mimosas

After brunch we went to (gush) Tiffany's and tried on some engagement rings. OK - so I'm not exactly trying to pick out my own ring behind my boyfriend's back BUT I've been asked what style I like, and i figured I'd try some on for more credibility. Tiffany's would be optional, of course ;-)

I thought I wanted a ring styled like the Tiffany Novo but wound up LOVING the Legacy. Now looking at it again it looks kind of weird, but on my short chubby fingers it looked much better than the Novo.

Legacy
After Tiffany's we went to Queen Jane Spa for a one hour massage. My massage HURT bad, which actually contributed to my non-work out the following day. I kept asking her to do it softer but she didn't listen and I was sore for 48 hours. The free time we got in the relaxation room and sauna though, was dreamy.

Sunday was a lazy day until heading out to Brass Monkey (second time to the meat packing district in one week) for some rooftop drinking. The weather was glorious and the Sam Summers were cold and delicious. Perfection.

Watching the sunset

I love this picture of them!
You can't see them but I loved my outfit on Sunday specifically because I got to wear my new boots again. I ordered these combat-style boots from Zappos last week and I am just loving them.

This is what I ate at The Brass Monkey - brisket sandwich. Good but... no good.

The sun setting

GIANT game of Connect 4. We played. Obviously.

What I didn't need were the 2 vodka sprites I got at Revel after drinking 4 beers. I was feeling it the next day (yesterday) and therefore, again, skipped a workout.

Yesterday was a lazy day out in the yard. We BBQ'd for dinner so overall, it was a pretty healthy day. We made some grilled corn to which I would categorize as pure heaven, and I cant believe I've never made it before.

Liz & Marvin's Grilled Corn
Ingredients:
-Yellow corn on the cob, husked and washed
-Olive oil
-Salt & Pepper
-Chili Powder
-Parmesan cheese (grated)

Directions:
-Put washed and husked corn in a large ziploc bag. Add a drizzle of olive oil, salt and pepper, shake up the bag.
-Put ears of corn on a hot grill - right on the grill.
-Turn corn frequently until kernels are charred throughout (about 10-15 min)
-Take corn off the grill, sprinkle with chili pepper and parmesan cheese
-Eat!!!

Now it's Tuesday and I'm killing my plans of "getting back into it" by laying on the couch. My long, rainy, traffic filled commute home put me in a terrible mood and gave me a killer headache. I don't want to do anything now except veg. It sucks how easily I can fall out of a healthy routine. You would think that if I'm messing up exercise wise, I'd at least keep eating clean. Nope, once one thing goes out the window everything else goes out the window too. Its incredibly important for me to stay on track in all 3 areas (exercising, eating, and sleeping) or I completely fall of the wagon.

I WILL exercise tomorrow if not for the simple fact to not have to watch myself contradict my own promises (in writing) yet again.

Daily = Weekly?

Welp, looks like my pledge to post daily has become weekly. Yuck. Things have been going not so well on the fitness front. I just can't seem to get back in it. I realize now how the the newness of the programs and the workouts really worked for me... the first 30 days felt exciting and new, and I didn't want to ruin it by messing up.

I'm getting sort of bored of Insanity. I even (shockingly) yawned 4 times during my last workout. I was in no state to be yawning, considering the amount of sweat dripping off my body. But still, I wish I had access to all of the Beachbody workouts! I really want to try some of the other videos, but I'm not willing to pay for the DVDs. I know there are tons of ways to watch them free online (not that I'm encouraging pirating) but my computer sucks so I can't really do that either. Looks like I'm going to have stick with Insanity for the time being.

Anyway, last week I was solid Monday-Thursday. The weekend was pretty much a wash, no exercising and food... not out the window but definitely not great. I had an amazing workout on Monday, but skipped yesterday due to massive cramps and headache. Instead, I drank half a bottle of wine to numb the pain. Bad!

I'm definitely going to do a workout today but I'm totally not feeling it. I feel like just curling up under the covers with my ipad and eating salty snacks. LOL. That's how I've felt all week!

Tomorrow I'm going to a Great Gatsby themed charity event at the Gansevoort. I'm excited about my outfit, the party, and hanging out at a hotel that was graced by the presence of the Kardashians. I'm not excited about feeling fat :-( This - will definitely not be me tomorrow night:

What does it even feel like to be that thin?????? Le sigh.

Its Friday not Fryday

Title = what Shaun T. tweets pretty much every Friday. Reminding us to make healthy choices as opposed to eating and drinking crap (like I mostly do on Fridays).

ANYWAY - how did a week fly out the window? Along with my goal of posting every day. I did however, workout this week Monday-Thursday... no back pain or any other pain. Ate healthy every day too - not one ounce of cheating! But alas, the weekend is here, with birthday parties and brunch plans on the horizon, I doubt I'll stick to the plan.

Day 4/Day 5

Yesterday was such a relaxing day... unfortunately it was the ONE day on my break that I ha absolutely nothing to do. It was wonderful. I was wishing for more of those days, but I was actually pretty bored by midnight, so I guess days like today are just as good.

Breakfast
-Nothing... I slept til 1!
-Iced coffee

Lunch
-Salad
-Cornflake chicken

Snack
-Turkey pepperoni

Snack
-Protein shake with fresh strawberries and bananas

Dinner
-Cornflake Chicken
-Couscous with peppers
-Salad

Snack
-Honeydew
-Skinnycow fudge pop

Yesterday I almost didn't do Insanity because I was feeling sooooo lazy. And sometimes... its just better not to push yourself. With about 5 minutes left to the workout, I threw my back out (I think). This has actually never happened to me before so I'm not completely sure what it feels like... but I suddenly got sharp shooting pains in my lower back. I stopped, waited for it to go away, then started again but the shooting pain returned immediately. I got scared so I shut off the video and just stretched up against the wall for a few minutes. The pain seems to have gone away but a few times during the night I turned or bent down and got the pain again. I think its safe to say I should skip todays workout, and I'm actually really bummed because I was doing great with my "starting over."

Day 3 Redo

So last night I was tired, slightly drunk, and struggling typing on my iPad, so I wrote a lame post. I wanted to keep my goal of posting every day though... so at least I did that :-) Here's a redo of yesterday:

Breakfast (on the run)
-Whole Wheat bagel with cream cheese on the side
-Iced coffee

Lunch
-Salad with homemade cornflake crusted chicken breast

Dinner
-I went out for drinks and dinner with Laura. I definitely made some good choices but also made some bad ones... we hopped around to different bars too which didn't help. Throughout the night I had:
--1 Summer wheat beer
--Shared pitcher of red sangria
--1 more glass of red sangria (on the house - how could I resist?!)
--Shared tapas: cheese & bread plate, grilled asparagus, grilled octopus, veggie croquettes

I definitely DID not need the extra glass of sangria, multiple pieces of bread, or veggie croquettes. Laura actually ordered this and forced me to eat two.

When I got home Marvin had ordered pad thai and I had a few bites (only a few, thank goodness).

I did Cardio Recovery - easy day, but I'm actually kind of sore today. I don't know if its from the crazy stretches or just sleeping funny.

I felt a little depressed last night when I was getting ready to go out and felt fat in everything. Yet again there are a pile of discarded crumpled clothes on my chair that need to be sorted and put back away. I'm just frustrated because its been more than 2 months since I've been doing Insanity and tracking my eating. While I definitely could have done better, ate less, and exercised more, I worked MY ASS OFF during the past two months. Its really discouraging that despite all the work.. I still feel fat, and I still weigh pretty much the same. I try not to care about the scale too much but I cant help it, it feels ridiculous that after all this my weight remains unchanged, give or take 5 pounds.

Blah.

Day 3

Good day. Cardio Recovery. Easy peasy. Cooked some cornflake chicken for lunch. Got drunk off sangria tonight.

Day 2

Today was a good day.

Woke up late and got breakfast at Gracie's. I stayed pretty healthy with a feta, spinach, egg white omelet with whole wheat toast, and I even substituted the home fries for tomatoes.

After I took a little nap and read some more of my new book: The Selection. It's pretty much a mix of The Hunger Games and The Bachelor, which is perfect because I'm obsessed with both of those things.

This afternoon Marvin and I went to Brooklyn for his doctor's appointment. I grabbed and iced coffee and had a banana on the way back.

Insanity wasn't too bad today. I was actually chatting with Marvin during the 30 second breaks- which is strange because usually I'm laying on the floor in a puddle of sweat struggling to lift my water bottle to my lips. It made me think I wasn't working hard enough, so I pushed harder, and then I got a cramp :-(

Currently Marvin and I are making our special roti chicken recipe.... Except its not really a roti for me because I'm having it with couscous instead. Since we cook it for almost 2 hours, we had some snacks of baby carrots, guac, hummus, and lowfat havarti cheese. Also sipping on some Sauvignon blanc.

I'm almost halves through my spring break which makes me really sad. But it's been nice and relaxing so far. My favorite part was going to the Brooklyn Flea on Saturday (the smorgaburg location right on the water). There were a million things to eat drink and buy but I settled on two snacks which were gone by the evening!
