"Last" Day

Totally not my last day. I'm going to keep doing this until I lose the weight I want to lose. Plus, I cheated basically all weekend.

Breakfast:
2 Coffees
3 Hardboiled eggs no yoke

Lunch
Kale Stirfry

Dinner
Chicken breast with Shake N Bake
Sweet Potato mash (just a baked sweet potato, skin peeled, and mashed up)
Celery sticks with white bean hummus

Snacks
Apple
Laughing cow light swiss
Larabar
Reduced fat cheese stick

So about Larabars.... they rock! I actually saw a special on the Food Network about them and was inspired to buy them. They are made with 100% "real" ingredients... and most of them are ONLY made with fruits and nuts. "Lara" (the creator) experiments with different nuts and fruits to create different flavors. Mine actually had chocolate chips so it wasn't COMPLETELY healthy. Now if they weren't so expensive.... But check it out:

•  The Original Fruit & Nut Food Bar®

•  Gluten  Free • NON-GMO • Kosher
•  Made with Fair Trade™ Chocolate

We at LARABAR® believe that a sound mind, body and spirit are derived from food in its simplest, most natural state. Made from 100% real food, LARABAR® with chocolate chips is a magical harmony of fruits, nuts and indulgent, Fair Trade™ chocolate that will lift your vitality and provide energy with every bite. Simple. Pure.

Success of the day: I did laundry!!! And by laundry I don't mean drop it off at wash n' fold but actually do my own laundry in the basement. It will be so great to sleep in clean sheets but I kinda wish I washed my blanket and pillow cases as well. I ran out of quarters :-(

Also, THIS happened on the Bachelor last night:

That's right. The girls were basically forced to do a Polar Bear plunge in Canada to prove their love for their man. One girl got hypothermia. I know its not funny but I honestly could not stop laughing at her face or the way she was acting. Oops

Day 9 - Biggest Loser motivation

Why do I get SO inspired by Watching The Biggest Loser??? I swear that show just tugs at my heart strings while simultaneously making me feel like the laziest piece of sh*t.

Well I'm not complaining. Watching last night's show got me back on my elliptical. I probably only went on for like 20 min, but its better than nothing.

What I would give to get Jillian Michaels in my face.

Today's menu was very similar to yesterday's

B
-Nonfat Greek yogurt w/ honey
-2 hard boiled eggs no yolk
-Coffee with coffeemate :(
Devils

L
-"Kale stirfry"
-Apple w/ one wedge of Laughing Cow light creamy Swiss

D
-WW pasta with "Kale stirfry"
-Celery sticks

S
-Organic applesauce (snack cup)
-Whole grain popcorn (1 cup)
-Dark choc (2 squares)
-Fresh strawberries

Cheat of the day: I had 3 Doritos! Honestly I cannot resist chips! There was a huge bag in the staff room that said "EAT ME!" Ughhh

Me.

The thing about the Laughing Cow cheese is its pretty freakin awesome. Is only 35 calories "per slice" and it comes in this nifty little packaged wedge. It doesn't actually taste like Swiss- but I love spreading it on apples. And whaddya know.... Checked out their website and it suggest putting it on apples!

In other news, the Bachelor is on AGAIN tonight for the special double episode. I cannot wait.

"Surprise" on last nigh't Bachelor

Day 8 - Kale Extravaganza

Every time I get a migraine, I start researching online for a "cure." It sounds ridiculous but I just keep hoping that one time, between migraines, someone will have discovered or created some new treatment.

Unfortunately, I rarely find any positive news regarding migraine. In fact, what I did find was an updated Fox New article published 1/16/13. The article discussed research that came out last year, linking migraine with aura to heart attacks & strokes. This was the part that scared me the most:

"After high blood pressure, migraine with aura was the second strongest single contributor to risk of heart attacks and strokes," said study author Dr. Tobias Kurth, of INSERM, the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research, and Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston.  "It came ahead of diabetes, current smoking, obesity, and family history of early heart disease."

This makes me feel like, as always, I have no control about what happens to my body or what will happen. There was, however, one small shining light at the end of the article:

"Women with migraines plus aura can reduce their risk by not smoking, keeping their blood pressure, maintaining a healthy weight and exercising."

This scares me but makes me even more motivated to get healthier. I had a really long talk with my mom last night and I think it helped me a) feel more relaxed and b) have a very healthy day! I even went on my elliptical for 20 min :D

Breakfast
-nonfat plain chobani yogurt with kashi granola and honey

Lunch
-kale "stir-fry" aka ground turkey breast, kale and kidney beans

Snacks
-green apple
-dark chocolate with sea salt
-raspberries
-celery with fat free ranch

Dinner
-whole wheat spaghetti with some of kale stir-fry and yellow roasted peppers

Successes:
-This morning at work, someone made brownies. She passed them around the table.... They were STILL warm. I took a small piece of one that someone had broken in half. I just tasted it and I was fine
-Today at work, lunch was on the house. Now it is extremely difficult for me to resist free food! Especially these cute little lunch boxes- include a wrap, cookie, chips and a snapple. I grabbed an apple from a box and went back up to eat my lunch
-after lunch, I had some time, so I walked to my favorite store in Brooklyn: Mr. Melon, to get some cheap organic produce. I also picked up some dark chocolate and some all natural pop corn
-When I got home, I changed and jumped on my mini elliptical. The best part about having a home machine is I literally do not worry how I look one bit. Also have complete access to my tv and dvr. I literally elliptical'ed in a sports bra and leggings while watching Glee.

Day 7 - hangover

I am feeling real crappy after a night of excessive drinking and eating. I think my body was shocked into a state of constant nausea after eating healthy for 5 days.

My sushi dinner, complete with a shared bottle of wine, was pretty standard. I then proceeded to drink 4 vodka sprites and end the night with two 3am slices of pizza. Classy. I don't know what's wrong with me but I'm definitely paying for it today. I couldn't even go to Marvin's brothers Super Bowl party. My superbowl Sunday has consisted of the couch, PJs, and ginger ale.

Today:

B
-Cereal (same as yesterday)
*Ive been using only organic milk and half&half

L
-"Baked (not fried) chicken cutlet sandwich ordered from one of my favorite places, Healthalicious. Comes with lowfat mozzarella and homemade tomato sauce (see description)

And that's it!! I just cannot eat anything else. I feel too sick :(

Day 6 - pushing the limits

I might have to do this day over.....

Bfast
-Kashi heart to heart oat flakes and blueberry clusters (cereal)
-skim latte

Lunch
-BLT, dry, on whole wheat toast (ummm bacons "real food" right????
-side salad
-cup of motzah ball soup

Tonight for dinner I'm going to my favorite BYOB sushi place "Poke" on a sort of double date??? Wine and sushi isn't the worst of the worse for sure, but I've prob had one too many carbs today. My head is still aching and its like I want to drown the pain with food. Honestly, Everytime I chew my headache subsides. WTF?!???

I did try to keep one thing clean today: my pores

Day 5 Eats

Not a good day... Already explained.

Bfast
-Cold presses iced coffee
-Eggs & Swiss on wheat toast

Lunch
-chickarina soup

Dinner
-Delivery from "Winston and Tee Jerk Chicken and Caribbean:" Jerk
Chicken and Oxtail both with cabbage and rice and peas

Caribbean food has become like the ultimate comfort food for me. Nothin processed about the jerk chicken and oxtail - however the oxtail was a little greasy and the rice & peas is prob not so healthy.

Day 5 & MIGRAINE

You know what's (not) funny. Last night, I re-read all my posts to back when I started this blog. It was the migraines that inspired me to write. Even though it had been 3 weeks since I've had one, I found myself lying awake in bed thinking about them.

And what happens this morning? I'm having a grand 'ol day at work... no classes just lots of time for planning and catching up. Feeling super satisfied and energized from my 9 hour sleep, egg & swiss on whole wheat toast, and a cold press iced coffee from Benny's.... and BOO - an aura just sneaks up on me. As i struggle to see through zigzag white lines I pop in a treximet and hope for the best. Within a half hour my left temple (always the left) is throbbing and I feel like I'm going to puke. Somehow (I probably shouldnt have) I drove home, found parking, and curled up in the dark with a pack of expired trader joe's frozen raspberries draped over my eyes.

6 hours later the headache was still here. I decided I was going to use the dreaded sumavel dose pro. This medication is pretty f'in scary. The last time I used it was 2 years ago, and upon administering, screamed so loud I surprised myself. This is what it looks like :

I don't know why it says "press the button." Also I do it on my outer thigh, not my stomach. Its compressed air, not a needle but IT HURTS SO BAD. And I do not know what I would do if I was diabetic because it seriously took me like 15 minutes to push it into my leg.

Anyway, the effect is almost instantaneous. The medicine goes directly into your bloodstream so I almost immediately started feeling better.

In other news, having a migraine makes me extremely, nauseous & queasy if not unable to keep anything down at all. So instead of my huge salad that I prepared for myself last night, I had to go for chickarina soup & pretzel sticks. While not necessarily unhealthy, the soup is filled with sodium and processed meatballs... the pretzels just unnecessary carbs. But I always want soup and pretzels when I'm sick, and both those foods make me think of being home :(

...

Anne Taintor can always cheer me up on a day when I feel helpless and powerless. Lately I have been obsessed with the "create your own caption" contest. I seriously die laughing, I don't know why I think these are so funny! Here are some of my favs:
